Exegesis: Watch out for overt attacks. These are characterized by: fear—having heard of our reputation (v. 1a); greed—not wanting us to take their land (v. 1b); and rage—lashing out at us with all their might (v. 2). Watch out for covert attacks. These are characterized by deception—trying to catch us off guard (vv. 3-5); snares—trying to entrap us in what we say (v. 6); and flattery—trying to get our eyes off of the issue (vv. 7-8a).
