Disturbing the peace is a misdemeanor for interfering with and disrupting the peace of a residential area, a public place or meeting. Commonly the peace is disturbed by loud noise. The Bible identifies some disturbers of the peace (Proverbs 13:10, 15:18, 17:14, 28:25) and "the strife of tongues" (Psalm 31:20) is a primary disturber. James also recognizes the tongue as such a disturber. The power and nature of the tongue is described in James 3. The remedy for an unruly tongue, true wisdom, is set forth in 3:13-18. This wisdom is peaceable and is manifest in peaceable words and ways with men.
