Aim: To recognize and fully-accept the centrality of the cross of Christ.
Exegesis: The cross separates the ''men'' from the ''boys.'' The ''men'' pay the price (v. 11); the ''boys'' seek a price (v. 12). The cross separates the true from the false. The false are concerned about self (v. 13); the true are concerned about Christ (v. 14). The cross separates the living from the dead. The dead seek man's means (v. 15a); the living seek God's means (vv. 15b-16). The cross separates the committed from the uncommitted. The uncommitted harass God's church (v. 17); the committed bless God's church (v. 18).
Key verse: v. 14 ''But God forbid that I should boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.''
