The book of Habakkuk can be easily outlined into three parts. CHAP. 1 β The prophet Habakkuk is WONDERING, or PERPLEXED. CHAP. 2 β The prophet Habakkuk is WAITING. CHAP. 3 β The prophet Habakkuk is WORSHIPPING, or REJOICING.
The third chapter of Habakkuk is a poem, apparently a hymn, an anthem of praise (cf. 3:19). It includes praise, thanksgiving, adoration, and most importantly β a plea for REVIVAL (3:2). Our church needs revival. Our nation needs revival. So tonight I would like to preach on the subject of revival.
1. IN ORDER TO HAVE REVIVAL, WE FIRST MUST HAVE THE FEAR OF GOD (HAB. 3:2). Romans 3:17-18; Psalm 119:11; Psalm 119:38; John 17:17.
2. AN UNDERSTANDING OF THE JUDGMENT OF GOD. Isa. 63:1-6; Matt. 24:7; Num. 11:1-3; Psalm 18:12-14; Psalm 2:2; Luke 19:14.
3. THE PROPER RESPONSE OF GOD'S PEOPLE (HAB. 3:16-19). Acts 2:37-41; John 15:4.
Now Habakkuk saw it β the holiness of God and the sinfulness of man. Do you see it? Your own sinful heart?
