As we enter 2022 with new hopes and resolutions we cannot forget that we bring into the mix our old selves with all their liabilities, inconsistencies and failings. If we are hoping the change in the calendar will bring a change in us we are heading for disappointment. But Paul directs the Colossians to a greater, more certain and fruitful hope. He says "Since you have received Jesus Christ the Lord." Paul places all his hopes for time and eternity, for himself and for others upon the Lord Jesus Christ whom believers have received as he is revealed in the Christian gospel. Let us begin the New Year in a similar way by renewing faith upon the Lord Jesus Christ whom we have received in the revelation we have of him in the gospel.
