Dearly beloved congregation of our Lord Jesus Christ, last week we looked at the quadruple necessity of prayer. You need to pray all the time with all kinds of prayer, both in your attitude and in actually getting down on your knees and talking to God. Well, this week, we see Paul requesting prayer for himself as well. As the letter winds up, he transitions to talking about himself for just a minute; we will look at that next week under the title "The Heartbeat of Ministry." But for today, I want to dial in on this prayer request. Now, obviously, the message I preach can't be "Let's all pray for the Apostle Paul." He's long dead and gone, and even if we believed in praying for the dead, there would be no need to pray for him as a chained ambassador who needed the guts to speak the truth to power. Rather, what this text tells us today is this: Pray for your pastor! That's right. Paul asked for prayer for his ministry. That tells us that we need to pray for those in ministry, and specifically for those who are ministering to us. If you're hearing this sermon, I'm ministering to you. So pray for me!
