The Redemption of Ruth - Message 4 - Ruth's Redemption Accomplished. Boaz informs a closer relative than he that Elimelech has property that needs to be redeemed. As the closer relative accepts Boaz lets him know that the redemption included taking Ruth as a wife. The closer relative decided he would not fulfill his obligation because to do so would eventually cost him. The inheritance he would gain from Elimelech's property would return to the heir provided by marriage with Ruth. As a result Boaz becomes the kinsman redeemer and fulfills his role to Ruth, taking her as his wife. Their first child, the heir of Mahlon, is Obed, who is King David's grandfather. Here we see the important role that Ruth the Moabites played in bringing about the birth of the Messiah!
