The most basic fact of all facts is that "there is one simple spiritual being, whom we call God." Or you might begin with people and our innate need for God. In our fallen state our most basic need is body and soul deliverance from the tyranny of the devil. Both approaches are valid.

And how should we understand the written record of God that we call the Bible. This is how the Westminster Confession of Faith begins its magisterial summary of the Christian faith. And it isn't surprising that this is the Confession's longest chapter—by far. What we believe about Scripture will influence how we think, not just about faith but about all of life.
