1. You are legally bound to the sin you serve. (The Problem) a. Once acknowledged, the law is permanently binding. b. Marriage is a clear example of this truth. i. There are legal requirements that govern behavior. ii. There are legal codes that establish what is right and wrong. iii. There is the dissolution of the legal bond and death. 2. Now, through Christ's death, you have died to the legal claim sin had on you. (The Correction) a. When released from sin we are now bound to Christ. b. Christ himself died to make this possible . c. Just as in marriage, there are the tangible results of our union with Christ. i. Our former way of living also produced results, so should our life in Christ! • It was a temporal, worldly way of living. • It was not passive nor neutral but passionate. • It was made clear by the law. • It played out in how we lived day to day. • Its end was death. d. We are no longer bound to the power of sin. 3. You are now to live as one free from the power of sin but legally bound to the Spirit. (The Follow-Through)
