What do you do when tempted to despair? It is true that we live in difficult times. We might as well admit it. The apostle warned us that such times would be characterized not by a lack of religion, but by the prevelance of a man-made and powerless form of godliness which serves only as a cloak for moral decadence. So what are we to do? We can rejoice that God has chosen to reveal the gospel of his kingdom to us, for comprehending spiritual truth is a gift of God. We can rejoice that God has revealed to us the glories of the new covenant, Christ himself being that covenant. And we can rejoice in the certain outcome of our faith--the salvation of our souls. We can rejoice in our union with Christ, and our fellowship with the Father, by the Spirit. We can rejoice that we have peace with God; unconditional, objective peace with God (Romans 5:1-2). In short, we can rejoice in the Lord always, and again I say, rejoice! (Phil. 4:4).
