Aim: To live as true children of God, by grace through faith in Christ.
Exegesis: A true Jew trusts Christ, not knowledge of the law. Understanding of it is not enough (vv. 17-20); zeal for it is not enough (vv. 21-23); heralding of it is not enough (v. 24). A true Jew trusts the gospel, not application of the law, because it is one strike and you are out (v. 25); because God is not a respecter of persons (vv. 26-27); because it is all a matter of the heart (vv. 28-29).
Key verse: vv. 28-29 ''For he is not a Jew who is one outwardly, nor is circumcision that which is outward in the flesh; but he is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the Spirit, not in the letter; whose praise is not from men but from God.''
