In 1 Thessalonians 4, Paul explains that the Lord's will is our sanctification. Many of the converts in Thessalonica were formerly pagan idolaters, belonging to cults in which sexual acts were incorporated into worship. Their view of sexual intimacy needed to be sanctified. Paul admonishes them to cut themselves off from all forms of sexual perversion. Though we may not have Temples of idols with prostitutes, the connection between sexual perversion and idolatry is prevalent in our day as well.
