Jesus is praying to His Father before going to the cross, to die for the sin of the world. He is praying that there would be good unity among the disciples, His apostles and those who had walked with Him for 3 and a half years. And He is also praying for all those like us brethren who are here today, as well, those who have believed in Christ through the word of the apostles, the New Testament Scriptures. The kind of unity that He prays for is that we all may be one, even as the Father and He were one; You in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world might believe. The Divine Unity is that they are one in Essence and Being. It is, in the case of Christ's prayer here, to the Father, a unity of purpose. The unity of Christ's disciples is this same kind of unity; that is, that we would be full of Christ's Spirit; that we would be of one spirit and one mind in relation to the truth of God's word and the practical outworking of that truth in our lives to the glory of God and Christ.
