Leaving Paul at Tarsus, Luke turned his attention back to Peter and a season in which Peter was engaged in itinerant ministry outside Jerusalem. Luke gave no reason for Peter embarking upon this work, noting only that his travels led him to visit the saints at Lydda. There he performed the first of two healing miracles, the second one occurring shortly after in nearby Joppa. One obvious purpose for this account is to provide the contextual transition into the Cornelius episode that follows, but it also makes its own contribution to Luke's larger narrative. This message considers that contribution and its significance for the Church today.
