In this chapter, I want to show that the concepts of 'a gospel church' and infant baptism are hand in glove. A major plank in the platform – the theology – upon which 'a gospel church' and its link with infant baptism stands is the covenant theologian's claim that the old and new covenants are in essence one and the same, and that these two covenants are nothing more than different administrations of one covenant of grace. As a direct consequence, covenant theologians go on to claim that Israel in the old covenant, and the church – the ekklēsia – in the new covenant, form one continuous body. To distinguish the ekklēsia from Israel, they invent a title for it: 'the gospel church'.
