Aim: To understand how and why God works miracles on our behalf.
Exegesis: Miracles are made of God's promises to us. We are invited to hear them (v. 9); we are encouraged in hearing them (vv. 10-11); we are motivated by hearing them (vv. 12-13). Miracles are made of God's power for us. He has authority over our wills (v. 14), worries (vv. 15-16a), and world (v. 16b). Miracles are made of God's passage of us. The Lord delivers us at the right place (v. 16c) and in the right way (v. 17).
Key verse: v. 17 ''Then the priests who bore the ark of the covenant of the LORD stood firm on dry ground in the midst of the Jordan; and all Israel crossed over on dry ground, until all the people had crossed completely over the Jordan.''
