No child wants socks and underwear for Christmas. There is nothing exciting about socks and underwear. The Christmas hopes and dreams we had as children were not about undergarments but, rather, were about toys, games, and candy. Nevertheless, socks and underwear were, sometimes, exactly what we needed, even if it wasn't quite what we were hoping for.
In the same way, Jesus was exactly what the Jews needed: Redeemer, King, Warrior, Friend and so much more; but they missed Him because they were expecting some else. Their desires were far too small -- like a child unable to image a holiday at the sea because he so enjoys building mud pies in the slum.
Don't miss Jesus. And don't miss this series as we discuss Messianic prophecies and the misunderstandings that caused the Jews (and still occasionally cause people today) to miss the Christ.
