Aim: To remember from whence we have come; and the glories to which the (united) church has ascended (in Christ).
Doctrine: Gentile churchmen are raised from hopeless Godlessness, to being fully covenanted in Christ. This raising has a ''testamental'' dimension to it and a personal dimension to it.
Exegesis: The remarkable musings resurrected gentiles are to have: we need to recall that we used to be excluded from Christ and His church (vv. 11-12a); we should consider how awful ''life'' is without God (v. 12b); the redeemed can marvel at the amazing grace given them (in Christ) (v. 13).
Further application: Contextual blessings that accrue to resurrected churchmen: believers have immediate access to God, and may gain all needed strength in Christ.
Key verse: v. 13 ''But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.''
