When we hear that Christ is the “Prince of Peace” we interpret this to say Christ is peaceful or Christ is like Gandhi, a man of peace. Yet, there is much more to Christ as the “Prince of Peace” than this. And this evening, I want to confront you with a third option. It is not that the Christmas story is a sham or that the Bible has a strange definition of peace; rather, it is that WE don't understand what the Bible means when it calls Christ, “The Prince of Peace.”
In fact, it is my contention that Christ as the “Prince of Peace” and the world as an extremely violent place are non-contradictory truths!
