Paul had to act the part of a 'fool' because the Corinthians had not defended him. They should have known his apostolic ministry because of the signs that were done through him. These signs were given in those times to authenticate the writers of the New Testament. Paul's concern for the Corinthians is for their souls not their money. Paul shows God's love in this. He had never defrauded them, but like God, had been as a Father to them. He is afraid that if he comes to Corinth the sins he has spoken to them about may still be present, undisciplined, which will force Paul, in love, to deal with those when he comes. Corinth shows us that even a true church can be plagued by sin.
