Now being ready to open up the history of redemption, Christ receives praises and prayers from all the saints that He has redeemed. They are pictured for us here as harps and golden bowls of incense. These praises and these prayers are offered up to God, not only for what Christ has accomplished in His death, but also for what He will do in every generation. They are offered up for the advancement of Christ’s cause and kingdom, through His Church, in anticipation of His saints coming to reign upon the earth, even as they presently reign in heaven with Him now. God’s saints are described for us in our text as “singing a new song”. This “singing a new song” is the word picture of what honors God, not only in formal worship, but in the living of our lives unto Him. It is that each and every Christian who would glorify God should be offering Him their praises and prayers as incense, each and every day. We will ask the question this afternoon: How should the praises and prayers of God’s people be offered up so that they would be pleasing to God? 2 descriptions are given to us of what God would have us to do to please Him.
