Psalm 90:12 So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom. • We only have one recorded prayer prayed by Paul asking something for himself; this is the only prayer we have a record of a "no" answer. All his other prayers were intercessory prayers for others. • He did not pray to grant the lusts of the flesh • He prayed for the spiritual wellbeing of others, for their spiritual benefit. • Here he prayed that the love they had would abound or exist in large amount. • Notice the Bible says MORE and MORE (an ever increasing abundance of love) • The moment someone gets saved, he or she has everything that they need; as God has His way in your life, you get more and more like Him.
The best way to have more love is to KNOW Jesus better. • God designed an increase in the Knowledge of Him to increase our love • God also designed an increase in judgment to result in an increase in our love RESULT: verse 10—that each of us finds out what God APPROVES of • That ye may be SINCERE—we are to have a sincere love and devotion to the Lord Jesus Christ and to others • It contains no guile • It is without offence—we will offend because of the nature of man (but will not be offended) • Pray that we will not offend but spiritual maturity means you will not be offended Psalm 119:165 Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them. Isaiah 32:16 Then judgment shall dwell in the wilderness, and righteousness remain in the fruitful field. 17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
