Zacharias, the father of John the Baptist, is the one who uttered these words. They are a prophecy of what God would do in mercy for His people Israel, but they are words of mercy which also apply to all who believe in the promises of God. These glorious words of prophecy pertain to our Lord Jesus Christ, who is described for us here as the mercy of God. This morning I would like to try to set before you the truth that Christ is God's mercy, not only to physical Israel, but to all of us believing Gentiles, in the following 3 ways. 1st – Christ is God’s visiting mercy to Israel. (verse 68) 2nd - Christ is God’s redeeming mercy promised to Israel. (verses 69-73) And 3rd – Christ is God’s delivering mercy performed to Israel. (verses 74 and 75)
