In this passage, we hear the Jews make their case against Paul. They are clearly taking this seriously, probably because they know that they have been violating Roman law. They bring an orator with them to make their case. He starts by flattering Felix and then distorts the timeline of what happened so they appear to be the reasonable ones and the commander of the Roman garrison to be the rash and violent party. Their story is they just found Paul, a man who caused rebellion among the Jews throughout the world, trying to defile the temple, they seized hm to try him and Claudius Lysias came with great violence and took him. The high priest and the elders probably didn't know what the letter sent with Paul contained, but they were probably afraid that it accused them of murder and plotting assassination. But we see hear a picture of the world loving their own rather than those who are of God, because even after the riot to kill Paul and the Sanhedrin joining the plot to assassinate Paul, Felix still wanted to do the Jews a favor.
