I would like to turn your attention to the response of the shepherds and Mary to the angelic message which they had heard. Whenever the word of God is delivered to us by the preaching of a good angel sent from God, or by a man who is called to preach it to us, we ought to listen carefully, and we ought to respond to it in a way which would be pleasing to God. This is what it means when it says in verse 20 that the shepherds returned glorifying and praising God for all the things that they heard and seen. Their glorifying God was their having done their duty, as they saw it, in relation to all that they had heard from the angel. With these shepherds and Mary, we find that their response was 4 fold. 1st, there was resolve on the shepherd's part. 2nd – They came with haste. 3rd – When they had seen, they made it widely known. And 4th – Mary pondered these things in her heart. I think that we will all be able to benefit, spiritually, from the responses of the shepherds and Mary. So let us consider them together.
