Aim: To experience life in covenant to the full—in Christ and His Church.
Doctrine: Church life is thoroughly community-oriented. All of our needs involve each other, and our victories are shared by all of us in Christ.
Exegesis: How life in covenant works: God has an answer for every aspect of His parishioner's experiences (vv. 13-14); faith is the firm support that unites us to Jesus (especially in our extreme troubles) (v. 15); confession and prayer are key to our complete well-being (v. 16a).
Further application: Why life in covenant is explosively evangelistic: because all people are created with a craving to belong and to be satisfied, and nowhere but Church, properly-functioning, does this ever occur.
Key verses: vv. 13-14a ''Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing psalms. Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church...''
