The centurion, a commander of 100 men stationed in Capernaum, was a Gentile who expressed faith that outshined any Jesus had witnessed in Israel. Only two times does Jesus marvel at great faith; this centurion's and that of a Canaanite (Gentile) woman (Matthew 15).
