The first words of the Bible are: "In the beginning, God." These words are so important that we have painted them on the arch of our church. We are to journey into the rest of the holy scriptures, rather than speculation, for it is the scriptures that are able "to make us wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus." "The secret things belong to the Lord our God." That is his concern. The things that are revealed belong to us. His revealed word. His promises. His gospel. The psalmist wrote, "I do not occupy myself with things too great and too marvelous for me." (Psalm 131:1) Instead, let us pay undivided attention to the Christ, "in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge." (Colossians 2:3) God created time for our benefit. We need times to work and times to rest. Times and seasons give rhythm to our lives. Day and night, months, and years were part of God's original creation before the fall. He even gave us the seven-day week, with a pattern of resting on the seventh day, for our benefit. As you sleep tonight, you don't have to wonder if the sun will rise in the morning. The Creator has promised. The sunrise is faithful because our God is faithful. Each day, week, month, and year is a new beginning!
