Jesus tells a parable about some wicked tenants of a vineyard who had wrongfully assumed ownership of that which was not their own. The big question is, "Who owns the vineyard?" God or you? Keeping in mind the answer to that question will determine how we live. Since God owns the vineyard, we must live accountably to Him. We must bear fruit for the owner of the vineyard. God patiently sends His gracious messengers to motivate us to live accountably. The Bible tells us we are all tenants acting like owners. All the self-help books tell you, "Act like an owner!" What the Bible says is, "No, you're a tenant." We all live in the illusion of independence and self-sufficiency. Life will never let you control it, no matter how hard you try. If life won't act as if you're the owner, the most obvious explanation is you aren't the owner. God is! Life is a messenger, constantly coming at you saying, "You're not in charge. You're not in control. You're a tenant. This is a gift!"
