SERMON INFO
We have been looking at the book of Joshua since the New Year. This book is a book of warfare. It gives us the account of Joshua's life and the battle to take over the land of Canaan. Joshua was encouraged in the beginning to be strong and of good courage. He would need this encouragement as the land was big, the nations were strong and the people were not as committed as they should be. It would take hard work to succeed. Yet the provision that was given to him, to strengthen him, was a reminder to stay in the word of God. Joshua was to meditate on it day and night that he might "observe to do according to all that that was written there in." If he did that, if he obeyed, God promised to be with him and to give him success. With this promise before him, Joshua looks over Jordan at Jericho, as the two spies spy out the land they find that the Lord is preparing the way before them. Their enemies' hearts are cast down and the people of Jericho have been filled with fear. They also rescue one precious soul at least who has placed her trust in the God of Israel. Now they are ready to start the crossing. Last week we looked at God's plan for crossing the river Jordan. He led them to a point where there was no way forward. With the Jordan in front of them, at flood time, it looks hopeless. Yet God has chosen that this will be the time that He the Lord will work. Joshua will be feared from this time forward, because Joshua is the Lord's. Join us today as we see the actual crossing of the river Jordan and Joshua sets up the Stones of Remembrance.
