Our culture is an identity crisis like never before. Identity confusion is rampant. Some young people, even those raised in Christian homes, identify themselves as androgynous: not male, nor female but both. They demand to be called "they" rather than he or she or it. Identity is powerful in the lives of people. We are always living out an identity. Identity and meaning are connected. It is not what we do that determines who we are, it is who we are (or think we are) that determines what we do. Our culture reacts to symptoms but seldom gets at the center: the disease. An old preacher put it this way: "Your problem is that you don't know what your problem is. You think your problem is your problem, but that's not the problem at all. Your problem is not your problem, and that's your main problem."
