The book of Second Kings begins with a king falling through a lattice work. Ahaziah has less than 2 years on the throne, and almost nothing is recorded of him. He is a servant of Baal just like his father, King Ahab, had been. When he fails to recover from his fall he sends his messenger to Ekron in Philistia to inquire of Baal Zebub.
But there is a God in Israel, and the Lord God has a prophet near at hand. Elijah is sent to intercept the messengers with a word from the Lord. His interference with the kings affairs angers the king and three times the king sends soldiers to arrest Elijah, with fiery results.
This message fits well into our own culture where the 'Autonomous Self' wants the ability to order our own personal lives including what we believe about God and what we allow God to say about our choices.
