"The wise man built his house upon a rock." "The foolish man built his house upon the sand." You may know the children's song that employs these words. In this unusually important passage: Matthew 7:24-28, and its parallel passage, Luke 6:46-48--New Testament obedience, or if you like, "evangelical obedience" is the foundation of the house--the life work--of a professing believer. To live out the sermon on the mount in one's own strength is certain dispair. Neverthe less, if we are not obeying the sermon on the mount we certainly are not wise men or wise women. In many cases where evangelical obedience is missing, salvation is missing. Alas, many contemporarey church paradigms are not multiplying New Testament disciples, they are instead innoculating people from becoming supernatural New Testament saints.
