In this passage Nicodemus, the teacher of Israel, who should have known these answers if anyone should, goes to Jesus Christ in the darkness of night, demonstrating the darkness of his understanding by the questions he asks and his perplexity to the answers Jesus gives him about the need to be re-birthed. Jesus tells him that his re-birth day is much more important than his birth day, and demonstrates that we all face this unless He chooses to give us eyes to see and ears to hear. Jesus also explains what this means in terms of the necessity to be reborn, the nature of being reborn, and the evidence of being reborn.
