When we examine a passage which describes the establishing of Saul’s regency or monarchy we need to recognize that Christ is the counterpart to Saul and that Saul’s kingdom foreshadows Christ’s kingdom is its ultimate fulfillment. Thus we believe that this text gives us instruction not only concerning the context and considerations which were involved in Saul’s rise to power but also concerning the person and work of Jesus Christ.
