In this Parable the father, even before the Prodigal left home, had taught his son what he was like. He showed him in many ways that he was a loving, compassionate, and faithful man and father. And this convinced the Prodigal that he should return home, and confess his sins to his father. I drew the parallel between this father in the Parable and our Father in heaven. Today we want to think about this phrase which comes from the lips of the Prodigal Son. "Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before you, and I am no longer worthy to be called your son." In these statements we find the Prodigal Son's confession of sin which the father so freely received. But in a special way today, I would like us to apply this truth to the need of any sinner returning to God, even any Christian person who is backslidden. I want to bring to your attention the important truth that repentance and returning to God is something that needs to take place in the life of the true Christian when they see that they have fallen into a backslidden condition.
