It is very evident from the actions described in verses 29 and 30 that nothing about salvation is a response to any action of a sinner. In the words of this text, the Apostle underlined the truth that God's eternal purpose, that we find expounded in verse 29, is applied in time, as we see in this text. All three actions are viewed as finished, and not subject to any weakness or failing on the part of anyone whom God has foreknown and predestinated to be conformed to the image of His Son. Here, Paul was saying, is the ground of security. Here is the refuge to which every believer must repair when the devil attacks on the issue of the assurance of salvation.
