Our sermon this week covers the instructions to the priests for examining cases where leprosy breaks out of either skin boils or burns. The text describes scenarios where, in both cases, the original burn or boil starts healing itself, but then leprosy (or suspected leprosy) presents. At that point, the priest has to decide if the person is unclean or requires a seven-day isolation. As is often the case, we see that harboring some sin or temptation might allow other sins to be revealed, even as the original sin is being repented of. In other cases, the person does not have leprosy, but is still scarred by the boil or burn. In a spiritual sense, this person is clean and has experienced forgiveness and repentance, but still has to bear some consequences of the past sin.
