The thought of authority is a distasteful one to Postmodern minds and ears. The autonomy of the individual is regarded as supreme in the pantheon of verities to be sought after. The decline of biblical regard for authority is infecting the church of Jesus Christ and is having its inevitable results in the crumbling of sound biblical theology and practice. This study series builds upon the previous study of “Postmodernity and Christianity,” which examined the philosophical foundations of the Post Modern view of objective and absolute Truth.
Our earlier lessons examined the absolute authority of God as Father, as Son, as Word and as Holy Spirit. We recently began exploring authority as God delegates it to angelic beings. This lesson explores the authority God delegates to humans. This authority is the foundation for all government and social structure. It is essential to the means that God employs to accomplish His purposes in the world among men, and by men. Human respect of delegated authority is a required response of Man to the authorities that surround him, since it is God who delegates all such authority.
