God is My Salvation - Message 55 - Cyrus, My Shepherd - Isaiah 44:24-45:13. Two looming needs are presented for God's people, 1) national bondage to Babylon, and 2) spiritual bondage to sin. Two Servants/Shepherds provide the solution, 1) Cyrus, and 2) Christ. The Lord's plan to use Cyrus is met with hostility and the people harden their hearts to the point that they are called rebels (46:8), stubborn hearted, and far from righteous (46:12). Chapter 48 announces their liberation from captivity but also accuses them of being without right to the name of Israel (48:1), stubborn (48:4), idol-loving (48:5), opinionated (48:7), treacherous (48:8), and having forfeited peace (48:18). When they leave Babylon the Lord comments of them, "There is no peace for the wicked" (48:22). Liberation solves only one of their problems, but the deeper problem of sin becomes more urgent.
