Regardless of the relative sovereignty that man is privileged to hold on earth (king David), the Christian knows that there is a greater than himself who holds absolute sovereignty. Of all the leadership rolls that he exercised as a father, husband, commander-in-chief of the nation’s army and king over his people, David knew that there was a Rock higher than himself upon which he must rest and behind which he must hide. Not only is this Rock higher than himself, it is too high for him to attain to by his natural powers; he prays therefore that God would “lead him” and lift his fainting body (“overwhelmed” Vs. 2).
