As the book of Kings closes we find that there are no longer any Jews living in the promised land. The remnant who had survived the Babylonian deportation flee back to Egypt. So the age of kings ends without a king, without a high priest, without a palace, without a temple, without a city and without a people. Yet a glimmer of hope remains - for in the 37th year of exile Jehoiachin (Jeconiah) is released from prison and given favour by the Babylonian king. From his descendants will come the final and greatest of the Davidic kings.... but that is another story.
