The Old Testament worshiper brought five main types of sacrifices to the altar. There were three voluntary sacrifices: the burnt offering, the grain offering, and the peace offering. There were also two mandatory sacrifices: the sin offering and the trespass offering. But as we've seen in Hebrews, the Old Covenant was passing away, the New and Better Covenant had arrived. And as you can read in Colossians 2:17, those Old Covenant sacrifices were "only a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ." If you a Christian, your faith in Christ means you live under the New Covenant. Are there any sacrifices for you to make…? I've fast-forwarded in Hebrews this morning for a look at one of my favorite worship and gratitude texts in the NT. Thanksgiving is good time to be reminded that God is still pleased with the His people's sacrifices: praise, thankfulness and doing good and generosity. Does your Thanksgiving plan include bringing God your sacrifices? Let's consider two ways to express your thankfulness this Thanksgiving: i.) bring God your sacrifice of thankfulness (v.15); offer God your sacrifice of good deeds and sharing (v.16).
