He Calls His Sheep by Name These four sons of Jacob were certainly not prominent among the brothers of Israel, but that does not mean they had no significance. Even though they were sons of Leah and Rachel’s servant their tribes would play a part in God’s story of redemption. Yet these tribes among some of the others seem to just disappear by the New Testament era. That does not mean that God forgot about them – in fact the Gospel went out early into the territories their progeny occupied. Many descendent of the tribes of Israel that were “lost” in more ways than one were found by the grace of God. They may seem like much in the history of redemption but people among them were precious in the sight of God. Few in history will have famous names and renowned families but the recipients of God’s grace have something far greater to rejoice over. The words of Jesus to the disciples come to mind: Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall hurt you. Nevertheless, do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven." Luke 10:19-20.
