The real lesson in this passage in 1 Samuel comes from David's perspective. Spiritual growth isn't an instant transformative experience. There are many twists and turns for us ahead. Saul made all the wrong turns. David makes mostly right turns.
David knew that he would be king. But he wouldn't rush off ahead of the LORD. We shouldn't either. We should faithfully move, live, and exist where God has us. We should do God's will for today and then for the week ...then the month, and then the year. String these years together faithfully, and you will be where God's wants you to be. You will accomplish what God wants you to accomplish.
