The life of David has been preserved for us as a multi-hued canvas of sovereignty, sin, and redemption. In page after page of David's biblical biography, you see the plan of God intersecting with the purposes of men. Like us, David is surrounded by lovers, loyalists, enemies, family, and friends—each a test of the heart and each a trial of faith. David's world is the real world of romance and danger, friendship and disloyalty, holiness and sin, peace and war, and sadness and celebration. It is a drama of the heart; a man called by and committed to God, but living in a world that is broken. Yet through each chapter of David's story, you see God's zeal for His own story; His purpose and His plan remaining firm, unaltered by human drama or political intrigue. Here you see God's man, in God's time, living in the real world, but connected to the One to come. David's story—like your story—is infected by sin and complicated by the Fall, but is infused with hope by a God of grace who will not forsake His purpose.
