"Discipline" is a scary word to some in our day, but it is a term similar to "disciple". As disciples of Jesus, we voluntarily submit ourselves to be taught & disciplined (trained) by the Lord. The church is comprized of disciples (Acts 11:26) & as His sons, we receive the blessing of His discipline (Heb 12:5ff). Disciples are taught to love other disciples which is a core dynamic of the local church. As a church, we continue under the formative discipline (training) of the Lord and He employs the Supper as a means of grace to intsruct & train us in holiness. The Table is also a means of corrective discipline to direct us away from idolatry.
