In this class we bring three things together which each are the unique possessions of the Lord Himself: His Day, His Supper, & His people. We examine the biblical testimony that the church gathered on the 1st day of the week & learn that that day came to be called "the Lord's Day". As such, the 1st day of the week inherits the moral signficance of the Sabbath Day while imbuing it with resurrection life, hope & joy. Rather than rooting the obligation of observing a holy day in the law of God, we find that obligation written into our very beings as men created in the image of God & now recreated in Christ. As His image-bearers, we rightly imitate His action & gather unto Him who deigned to meet with His disciples on the 1st day of the week. Then, gathered with Christ, we eat His supper. The "Lord's Supper" is grammatically similar to the "Lord's Day" showing Jesus' ownership of both. Those who gather unto the Lord on His appointed day & eat His sacramental meal are indeed none other than His people - His "kirche": the word for "church" which is derived from the Greek term meaning "belonging to the Lord." The Lord's Day, the Lord's Supper & the Lord's people - an alignment of that which is the Lord's & which glorifies Him.
