The thought of authority is a distasteful one to Postmodern minds and ears. The autonomy of the individual is regarded as supreme in the pantheon of verities to be sought after. The decline of biblical regard for authority is infecting the church of Jesus Christ and is having its inevitable results in the crumbling of sound biblical theology and practice. This study series builds upon the previous study of “Postmodernity and Christianity,” which examined the philosophical foundations of the Post Modern view of objective and absolute Truth.
Our previous lessons examined the absolute authority of God as Creator, as Jesus Christ His Son, and His Word in Scripture, and as the Holy Spirit. At this point we give attention to delegated authority among men within society. According to scripture there is no authority except as given from God. Therefore, the authorities experienced or exercised are the express manifestation of God's will and purpose to work His decree in history and the governance of man providing for the orderly function of society. Even when granted to pagan, unbelieving men, such authority has the power of God supporting it. Rebellion is not an option for followers in the Kingdom of God.
A course notebook is being developed concurrently with this series. Upon completion it will be available at a nominal charge, upon request.
