All truth is God's truth and so sometimes even an ungodly person can express something which is true and reflects what the Bible teaches. Between verses 5 and 11 in the book of Jude, the Holy Spirit gives seven short history lessons and these are lessons we are intended to take to heart as we "earnestly contend for the faith." Six out of the seven provide negative examples. That is, in contending for the faith against those who are ungodly, lascivious and deny the person and work of Christ, we are shown what their true character is, what their destiny is, and how we are to recognize them. Huxley's quote here is most instructive. Often in the history of God's people the lessons which were intended to be learned were not learned and the judgment which fell in times past fell upon those who failed to do the learning.
